The Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra is a professional orchestra that also includes a select number of faculty, community, and student musicians. The LCSO regularly performs with exceptional guest artists from around the world. Principal players and artist faculty at NMSU provide leadership in the orchestra. Each season the 70-member orchestra performs four pairs of Classical Concerts and one POPS concert.
Student Performance Stipends provide performing opportunities and career advancement to talented student musicians. Under the baton of Music Director/Conductor Dr. Lonnie Klein, student musicians perform alongside professionals and visiting guest solo artists in the orchestra, providing invaluable experience and contacts for their musical careers.
Students wishing to perform with the symphony must be current students at New Mexico State University. Auditions with the music director are required for performance stipend consideration and membership in the orchestra.
Students pursuing music degrees at NMSU are eligible for performance stipends based on musical talent and academic potential. Requirements for students wishing to apply for a performance stipend are:
● Acceptance for admission to New Mexico State University.
● Completion of the Academic Scholarship portion of the Application for Admission.
● Auditions with the music director held at the beginning of the academic year. Auditions are scheduled through the LCSA office, room 210 in the Music Center Building.
