Symphony Youth Orchestra is a full symphonic orchestra consisting of winds, brass, percussion, strings, etc.), and is open to all students up to 18 years of age (generally high school, though younger students can be accepted if they are technically capable). In collaboration with New Mexico State University’s music department, the goal of the youth symphony is to provide high-quality orchestral music education for young musicians in and around Las Cruces. The Las Cruces Symphony Youth Orchestra will give several concerts throughout the year, have side-by-sides with the Las Cruces Symphony, hold an annual concerto competition, and will be coached and led by NMSU faculty members and other prominent music educators.
NMSU professor Jorge Martinez Rios serves as the Conductor for the youth orchestra, and students will be additionally coached by: Jen Rogers, Elisabeth Greene, Hyerim Mapp, and Tyler Valadez.
Rehearsals for the spring of 2023 will be held weekly on Saturday mornings from 10-12pm, on the campus of NMSU. The first rehearsal will be March 4th, and the semester will conclude with a side-by-side with the Las Cruces Symphony. Specific dates are:

An audition is required (solo of student’s choice), though the audition is waived if a student was accepted to the 2022 All-Region Honor Orchestra or if the student has a letter of recommendation from your private or school teacher.
